Ernest Babineau

At the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, March 4, 2024, Mr. Ernest Babineau of Grand Falls passed away at the age of 82 years. He was the widower of Gladys Vivie. Born in 1942, he was a son of the late Arthur and Claudia (Caissie) Babineau.

Ernest and Gladys raised 3 children in Crombie Settlement and were enjoying their golden years together when on Feburary 6, 2013, the family home caught on fire. Ernest was rescued by being pulled from the basement window. His recovery was long and arduous. It was said for a man of 71 years old to survive his injuries was nothing short of a miracle. The staff dubbed him The Miracle Man. At the time, Ernest was one of the oldest burn victims to survive. Ernest lost his eye sight during the fire, and for 11 more years he survived by talking up a storm. He never complained. Ernest lived alone for 5 of those years after his wife passing until his death. His sisters Rose and Marg called him a saint to which he would laugh. When he was able, he attended Knights of Columbus meetings in Plaster Rock where he was a member. He loved reading the Knights of Columbus magazines until he was unable to read due to losing his eyesight.

He is survived by three children, Tammy of Riverview, Trevor and Tracy (Michel Petit) of Grand Falls, four grandcildren, Justin and Megan Thibodeau, Destiny Lunn and Koby Bois, one great grandson, Joseph Jasper Thibodeau Wylie, brothers and sisters, Phillip (Jeannine) of New Denmark, Alex (late Doris) of New Denmark, Peter (Margaret) of Ontario, Paul (Ann) of Crombie Settlement, Rose Babineau and Margaret Babineau of Fredericton, sister-in-law, Joan (late Leonard) of Crombie Settlement, as well as nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother Leonard and brother Sylvain and a sister Mary Anne at a young age.
