Velma LaPointe

At the Grand Falls General Hospital, January 5, 2021, Mrs. Velma LaPointe of Saint-Leonard passed away at the age of 96 years.  She was the widow of Ludovic LaPointe and had been a resident of Foyer Notre-Dame Nursing Home.  Born at Saint-Leonard in 1924, she was the last surviving child of the late Edmond and Marie (Cyr) Deveau.

She is survived by eight children, Roger (partner Lorraine) of Moncton, Clermont ''Bob'' (partner Ruby Bradbury) of Saint-Leonard, Rhéal (Solange) of Dieppe, Laurenza LaPointe (Louis Aceti) of Joliette, Quebec, Laurenna Michaud (Mathieu) of Moncton, Bertrand (Chantale Fréchette) of Boucherville, Quebec, Phyllis Albert (friend Daniel) of Edmundston and Marcella LaPointe (Guy Michaud) of Saint-Leonard, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild plus one on the way, several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two children, Mariette and Marcel, four sisters, Dora Tardif, Alexandrine Laviolette, Edna Dupré and Jeannette Castonguay.

Her funeral service will be held from the Saint-Leonard Roman Catholic Church with her family and close friends in attendance.  Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Due to restrictions imposed by the Dept. of Health, attendees will be contacted by the family.
