Glenn Rioux

At the Edmundston Regional Hospital, February 20, 2021, Mr. Glenn Rioux of Grand Falls passed away at the age of 68.  He was the husband of Alvine (Levesque) Rioux.  Born at Grand Falls in 1953, he was the youngest child of the late Edouard ''Eddie'' and Adele (Picard) Rioux.

For 25 years he worked in the auto parts business (U.A.P. - NAPA) and also owned a dry cleaner taking care of the accounting and bookkeeping. He was a municipal councilor for the Town of Grand Falls for several years and was a member of the parish council and the economic affairs committee of the Assumption Parish of Grand Falls for several years. At the Knights of Columbus level, for a period of two consecutive years, he was named "Grand Knight of the Year in New Brunswick" and received the Jubilee Medal of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for a significant contribution to Canada, the community and to Canadian citizens. In addition, he was awarded the Rotary Club's highest honor "The Paul Harris Award" for his volunteer work in his community as well as the Memorial Medal. He also received a diamond medal…. of Queen Elizabeth ll, presented by the Right Honorable Senator Percy Mockler, Diamond Medal…. of Queen Elizabeth ll, presented by Food Bank of Canada for years of service caring for the poor. Honorable Member of Parliament T.J. Harvey presented him with a commemorative medallion of Canada 150 Community Leader.

In 2010 he was named Personality of the Year by the New Brunswick newspaper Etoile, in 2017 Radio Canada gave him the title of Personality of the Year.

With the help of the community, he set up a food bank that goes by the name of Grand Falls Regional Food Bank Inc. 30 years ago and it still continues to grow. He was involved with helping the people and the many families living below the poverty line. For 30 years now, he has remained a member and 3-year Past President of the New Brunswick Association of Food Banks. He was also for 11 years the Coordinator of Partage NB and a board member for 5 years of the Food Bank Canada Association. 

Glenn is survived by his wife Alvine, his three children, France Desjardins (Yan) of Medford, Julie Rioux (Luc Gagné) of Grand Falls and Denie (Renée) of Dieppe, four granddaughters, Kloé (Ti-Pooh), Gabrièle (Popoune), Ariane (Ariane la banane) and Léa (Buddy), two brothers, Guildo of St-Eustache, Quebec and Joël (Yvonne) of Grand Falls, three sisters, Gaëtanne Desjardins of Grand Falls, Greta Ledoux (Jean-Guy) of Oromocto and Jocelyne Morin (Hubert) of Grand Falls, as well as nieces and nephews.

A Committal Service will be held in the Spring in the Assumption Parish Cemetery of Grand Falls.
