Clovis Cormier

At the Falls Villa (Grand Falls Manor), September 23, 2022, Mr. Clovis Cormier of Saint-Andre passed away at the age of 91 years. He was the husband of Jeannine (Durepos) Cormier. Born at Saint-Andre in 1931, he was a son of the late Armand and Alma (Levesque) Cormier.

A graduate of Saint-André school, of the Sacred Heart College in Bathurst and of Université Sainte-Anne in Church Point, Nova Scotia, he became a teacher and later Principal of the regional school of Saint -André for many years.

Mr. Cormier was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree of Council 7222 and 4th degree of Assembly 1904 Father Irenée-St-Amand. He was also a member of the Society of Retired Francophone Teachers of New Brunswick, John-Vallillee circle, member of the Association of Retired School Principals of New Brunswick, member of the U.C.T. movement, Council 854 of Grand Falls, member of the Canadian Red Cross Society, member of the Richelieu Club of Grand Falls and member of the Madawaska-Victoria Snowmobile Association.

At the community level, he was a member of the Saint-Léonard regional airport commission; District 32 School Board Commissioner; Secretary of the Mad-Vic Snowmobilers Association; director of the Crime Stoppers Association of the municipalities of Madawaska South and Grand Falls; Founding President of the Cadets de la forêt; member, director, president and event president of Club Richelieu's 25th anniversary celebrations; founding director of the Northwest Tourism Association; director of the Grand Falls Chamber of Commerce; mayor of the municipality of Saint-André from 1980-1983; Director of the Grand Falls Manor Company; member of the Association of New Brunswick Villages; Director of the Grand Falls Industrial Commission; Director of the Rural and Native Housing Society of the Madawaska-Victoria Region; Saint-André representative at the Grand Falls General Hospital; Founder and President of the Mental Health Association of the Grand Falls Region; President and founder of minor hockey and parish leagues.

His activities related to Bill C-68 include auditor certified by the Canadian Firearms Registry; firearms safety and handling instructor of the Canadian course and instructor for the hunting and firearms safety program of the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources.

He is survived by his wife Jeannine, four children, Jacques Cormier (Kathleen) of Val d'Or, Quebec, Lise Cyr (George) of Grand Falls, Paul Cormier (Della) of Saint-Andre and Line Cormier (Donald) of Montreal, eight grandchildren,  Bryan (Cindy) of Val d'Or, Cindy of Val d'Or, Mélanie Cyr (Gabriel) of Grand Falls, Stéphanie Michaud (Allison) of Grand Falls, Sébastien Cyr (Stéphanie) of Grand Falls, Jennifer Cormier Lawrence (Eddy) of Moncton, David Cormier (Alexia) of Montreal and Sarah Cormier (Anthony) of Montreal, great grandchildren, Shawn, Tyler, Joany, Jessica, Anthony, Alexandre and Amely, brothers and sisters, Gilles Cormier (late Lise Powers) of Saint-Andre, Claudette (late Patrice Beaulieu) of Moncton, Armande (late Yvon Beaulieu) of Moncton, Claude Cormier (late Corine Landry)(partner Cécile Methot) of St-Sava Jonquière, Quebec, Micheline Cormier of Grand Falls, Jacqueline (partner Peter Shellenburg) of Halfmoon Bay, BC and Jocelyne Cormier (partner Eric Pierce) of Picton, Ontario, as well as nieces and nephews.  

He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Marie-Ange Cormier, Fernande (late Gaston Bérubé), Guy Cormier (Pauline) of Atholville, Gaëtane Givskud (late John), Marielle Albert (late Albin Uzup), Mario Cormier (partner Donna Hurry) of Surrey, BC, Gisèle Cormier (Hermel Lizotte) of Plantsville, Connecticut.

Resting at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours on Friday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

His funeral service will be held Friday September 30th at 3 p.m. from the Saint-Andre Roman Catholic Church with interment in the parish cemetery.
