Edwina Lynch

1927-2023

Edwina Lynch

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edwina Lynch (née Rossignol) on January 29, 2023. She passed peacefully, in the presence of her family, after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband Nelson Lynch as well as her parents William Rossignol and Agnès Gagnon.

She is survived by her four children Bill (Madeleine), Anne (Wallace), Paul (Lissa), and Pierre; her grandchildren Marie-Josée (Jonathan), Marc-André (Shormila), Pierre-Yves (Jenny), Sébastien (Christina), Marie-Ève (Andrew), Matthew (Megen), and Alexandre; and her great-grandchildren Nadège, Ophélie, Reya, Léandre, and Kavi, as well as several nieces and nephews. Aside from her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Ivan (Mary), Lenus (Frances), Malachi (Adrienne) and Damien (Genevieve).

Born in Grand Falls, Edwina completed her schooling and initial music education in her hometown before obtaining her teaching diploma from the École normale de Fredericton. She pursued her musical studies in piano and voice in Montréal at École musicale Vincent-d’Indy. She then took courses at Columbia University of New York, and completed training in specialized education for visually impaired people toward the end of her career.

Edwina worked as assistant to the superintendent and as a teacher in Victoria County before raising her children. She taught singing (we salute her protégée Annick Gagnon) as well as piano, and was a church organist for 80 years, mostly playing in the Grand Falls area.

At the age of 90, Edwina moved to Moncton to be closer to her daughter Anne, her son Paul, and their families. A resident of the Faubourg du Mascaret, she founded Les chanteurs du Faubourg, and was their accompanist on piano and organ. This brought her great joy.

Edwina instilled values in her children that include the love of music, the importance of education and regularly coming together as a family. Christmas was of great importance to her.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Faubourg du Mascaret for their personalized care and welcome ; in particular, we express our gratitude to Christina, Susan, Mélanie, and Carly for their kindness to our mother. Finally, the family thanks the staff of the Extra-Mural Program and of the Maison Albert hospice for the excellent care provided in her final days.
