At the Victoria Glen Manor, Perth-Andover, October 18, 2023, Mr. Richard A. ''Dick'' Merritt of Grand Falls passed away at the age of 90. He was the widower of Rita Pelletier and companion of Bernadette ''Bunny'' McLaughlin. Born at Grand Falls in 1932, he was a son of the late Sperry J. and Dolores (Long) Merritt.

Dick loved hunting and fishing, vacationing with Rita and the family, particularly in Arizona. He was an avid snowmobiler, having been active in the creation of province-wide trails.

Mr. Merritt owned and operated The Merritt Press Ltd. which was founded in 1923 and sold in 2013. The company was the Publisher of the Cataract Weekly newspaper which circulated for many decades. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree of Council 2331.

Besides his companion Bunny, he is survived by five children, Stephen of Chatham, Ontario, John (Jacqueline ''Jack'' Dionne) of Quesnel, BC, Gregory (Cheryl) of Stony Plain, Alberta, Ann Dickinson (Robert Hargrove) of Woodstock and Tom (Françoise Laplante) of Saint-Quentin, nine grandchildren, Melanie, Jesse, Stephanie, Michael, Jennifer, David Scott, Mason and Brent, 15 great grandchildren, brother-in-law, Donat Bois (late Natalie) of Moncton, sisters-in-law on Rita's side of the family, Gisèle Fraser (Robert), Onilda, Thérèse and Claudette, several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Corey Dickinson, sister Natalie Bois and brother Kenneth Merritt (late Claire).

Resting at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours on Tuesday, October 24th from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 24th at 11 a.m. from the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls with interment in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations to the Grand Falls Regional Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
