Gilberte "Anne" Hamilton
1936-2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Gilberte (Anne) Hamilton of California Settlement at the age of 87. She was the widow of Richard Hamilton (1991).
Mom was born in Cormierville, NB on March 2, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Ida (Cormier) Després.
She is survived by one daughter Myra (Lisa) of Grand Falls, two sons, Richard Hamilton Jr. (Lisa) and Paul, both of California Settlement, one grandson Matthew of California Settlement, one brother Norman of Cormierville, sister-in-law Anna of California, sister and brother-in-law Glenetta and George O'Neil, brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Hilda Hamilton, all of California Settlement and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Alonzo (Noella), Leonide (Gerry), Ulric (Anna), Eugene, sisters Irene Gallant (Edmond) and Ella Legere (George).
Mom left her small hometown in her late teens to seek employment in Toronto, Ontario. That is where she met the love of her life who had left his home in California Settlement to do the same. They were married in 1955. After a few years in Toronto, they moved to Waltham, Massachusetts. In 1964, they moved back to Canada and settled in California Settlement where they spent the rest of their happy life together raising their children.
Her children brought her so much joy. She was a very kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother. She instilled in each of us a great work ethic, to always be honest but most of all to be kind and caring to everyone.
Faith was a big part of Mom's life and we have no doubt that she is now reunited with those who went before her.
A special thanks to all who cared for her at the Victoria Glen Manor.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 7th at 11 a.m. from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls Portage with Father Gilbert Doddatto officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery, California Settlement.
For those who wish, donations to Sunset Cemetery or the Victoria Glen Manor would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are by O'Regan's Funeral Home Ltd.
